PRINTING PROCEDURE TO ACHIEVE AN OPTICAL RELIEF AND INSTALLATION EFFECT TO CARRY OUT THIS PROCEDURE
Technology Sector
The present invention is related to the impressions that are made to determine a relief effect and, particularly, for imitations of veins of natural wood, on application substrates in, for example, panels or pieces of furniture construction, proposing a procedure and an installation that allows high quality prints with an optical relief effect.
State of the art
It is known to carry out relief imitations by means of prints with different types of technologies, such as flexography, gravure or digital technology, looking for the prints to be as close as possible to the natural element that is imitated, which in the case of wood are the colors and the texture of it with the characteristic veining that corresponds.
In that sense, for the realization of relief prints, the use of different techniques and machinery is known; as the digital printing called "inkjet", which is based on the projection, by means of projection heads, of inks of some basic colors, with the combination of which all the required printing colors are obtained; the application of transparent pigmented inks, using digital projection heads, to determine a gloss layer on printed drawings; roller varnishing, for the extension of UV varnishes with matt loads; and drying by ultraviolet radiation of the inks and varnishes after application.
With analogical processes, the natural brightness of the wood has been copied by means of prints with semi-transparent or nuanced products, imitating the patterns and colors of the veins, as well as the brightness of the different areas from different angles.
Analog processes have, however, a limitation of the flexibility of printing to produce such effects of imitation of wood, with respect to digital printing, since

that the variation of designs is not possible with the ease that the digital printing technique allows.
Therefore, for the realization of relief effects on wood imitations, with suitable brightness, the digital printing technique is preferable, combining different brightness applications digitally, since thus the brightness is controllable with the same precision as the Own digital printing.
In this regard, a process formed by a digital impression of formation of the desired drawing is known, for example the characteristic streaking of a wood, by a projection of colored inks, following an ultraviolet drying of the inks applied, then a UV varnishing of the type matte, followed by another ultraviolet drying of the applied varnish, and finally a digital application of transparent pigmented inks, followed by ultraviolet drying of the transparent inks.
With this process an imitation of wood is obtained with very bright veins, which are unnatural, due to the high brightness of the transparent inks that are used in the final digital application.
In the same sense, Patent ES 2349527 proposes a process that includes a digital impression of formation of the drawing of the grain to be imitated, by means of a projection of colored inks, following an ultraviolet drying of the applied inks, then a UV varnishing of the type matte, followed by a digital application of transparent pigmented inks and ultraviolet drying of transparent inks.
In this case, because the transparent inks are applied on the UV varnish without drying, these inks are mixed with the UV varnish, resulting in a less bright result, but the relief effect is lost, since when applying the transparent inks on the varnish that is in a fluid state, said transparent inks are integrated into the varnish, thereby obtaining a practically flat effect, with uncontrolled glare due to the expansion of the transparent inks in the fluid varnish on which they are applied .
Object of the invention
According to the invention, a printing procedure is proposed that allows obtaining

an optical effect of imitation of relief with great quality, remedying in an efficient way the inconveniences of conventional processes, being also object of the invention the installation with which said procedure is developed.
The method object of the invention comprises a digital impression of formation of the desired drawing, for example the imitation of a grain of natural wood, by a projection of colored inks, following a drying of the inks of colors applied, then applied on the drawing of the digital impression transparent pigments without pigmentation, by digital projection, following an ultraviolet drying of the transparent inks applied, and finally a UV varnish of degree of brightness different from that of the transparent inks of the previous application, followed by an ultraviolet drying of the varnish applied in said varnishing.
In this case, when digitally applying the transparent inks on the dry digital printing, a rejection or contraction effect of the drops of the transparent inks is produced, since the drops of said transparent inks do not extend on the dry surface of the inks of colors of digital printing, which gives a more pronounced relief effect.
And on the other hand, when applying UV varnishing on dry transparent inks, the surface brightness obtained is much more natural and similar to the appearance of wood; also achieving a more durable protection of the finish, since the UV varnish that remains on the outer surface contains suspended particles that give it a hardness greater than that of transparent pigmented inks.
Therefore, with this process object of the invention, the relief effect is increased and a superficial appearance is obtained with subtle glitters that improve the appearance of the brightness determined by the transparent inks, providing a finish more similar to the natural appearance of the wood.
The installation with which the procedure is carried out comprises, in a consecutive arrangement, a group of digital printing composed of projection heads of colored inks, a first ultraviolet drying tunnel, a digital group of projection of transparent pigmented inks, which it can be a group such as digital printing with some of the projection heads loaded with transparent pigmented inks instead of colored inks, a second ultraviolet drying tunnel, a group of

roller varnish and a third ultraviolet drying tunnel; Therefore, the entire installation is composed of conventional elements, which are arranged in a specific distribution to develop the order of the phases of the process of the invention.
Description of the figures
Figure 1 shows in diagram a conventional process of obtaining a relief effect by digital printing followed by UV varnishing and a digital application of transparent inks, with ultraviolet drying after each of the printing and varnishing phases.
Figure 2 shows in diagram a conventional process of obtaining a relief effect, with the same printing and varnishing phases as in the previous figure, without drying between UV varnishing and the digital application of transparent inks.
Figure 3 shows in schematic the printing process with optical relief effect, according to the method of the invention.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail of the result of a printed surface with optical relief effect according to the invention.
Detailed description of the invention
The object of the invention relates to a method and an installation for making impressions with optical relief effect, for example to imitate the appearance of a natural wood with grain, on the surface of a substrate (7), for the configuration of panels or pieces of furniture formation or similar applications.
As can be seen in Figure 3, the process of the invention comprises a digital impression (1) of formation of the drawing that is desired to be represented, such as the characteristic grain of a natural wood, by projection of colored inks (1.1) by means of heads projectors (1.2), determining with the mixture of said colored inks (1.1) the necessary colors in the representation of the drawing, with the sharpness provided by this printing technique.
Following said digital printing (1) ultraviolet drying (2) is performed, by

which the colored inks (1.1) applied in the representation of the drawing made on the surface of the substrate (7) of application are dried.
Then, on the printed and dry drawing, an application (3) of transparent inks (3.1) without pigmentation is carried out, with projection heads (3.2) such as those of digital printing (1), being able to use an applicator group such as said digital printing (1), loading the necessary projection heads (3.2) with transparent pigments (3.1) without pigment, instead of the colored inks (1.1) of digital printing (1).
After the application (3) of transparent inks (3.1), ultraviolet drying (4) is carried out, by means of which the transparent inks (3.1) applied in said application (3) are dried.
Once the transparent inks (3.1) have dried, a varnish (5) with UV varnish of different brightness than the transparent inks (3.1) of the application (3) is spread over the entire surface of the substrate (7), extending said varnish by means of a roller applicator (5.1); and then a final ultraviolet drying (6) is performed, by which the varnish varnish (5) is dried.
The installation for carrying out this process of the invention therefore comprises consecutively arranged: a printing group, formed by projection heads (1.2), for the application of colored inks (1.1) of digital printing (1) ; a first drying tunnel, for ultraviolet drying (2) of the colored inks (1.1); a digital projection group, consisting of projection heads (3.2), to apply the transparent inks (3.1) of the application (3); a second drying tunnel, for ultraviolet drying (4) of the transparent inks (3.1); a roller applicator (5.1), to apply the varnish varnish (5); and a third drying tunnel, for ultraviolet drying (6) of the varnish applied in said varnishing (5).
It is thus a system with which, as seen in Figure 4, on the surface of an application substrate (7), after the digital printing (1) is made the drawing of a grain to be imitated, by means of the application ( 3) of transparent inks (3.1) on the drawing, an enhancement thereof is obtained which determines a marked optical effect of said drawing and by means of extending the varnish (5) over the entire surface of the substrate (7) a contrast is achieved of brightness that determines a similarity of great approximation to the aspect
Natural wood that is about imitating.
With this system, the drawbacks of conventional processes of the same application, such as that of Figure 1, where the varnishing (5) is applied after digital printing (1) are significantly eliminated or reduced. and the transparent inks (3.1) are applied on said varnish (5), whereby the glazes of the veins that are imitated are unnatural; or the process of figure 2, in which the same operating order is followed as in the previous case, but without ultraviolet drying (6) of the varnishing (5), whereby the transparent inks (3.1) are mixed and they integrate with the varnish of the varnished 10 (5), practically missing the relief effect.
